KUWAIT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Project details
Automating everything
The new Kuwait International Airport is designed by Foster + Partners and we worked together with WERNER SOBEK Engineering to automate and solve different parts of the project. The tasks ranged from automated creation of BIM elements to finding solutions for complex geometrical problems. From generating single curved panels over a double curved surface, to generating the complete reinforcement for all concrete panels of the free-form roof shell.
The entire object represents one of the largest free form grid shell structures in the world, and every single panel, with all its reinforcement and steel details, had to be generated automatically. Every steel element had to be prepared for static analysis and for production using programming. An extremely interesting project that demonstrates the power of programming and the amazing fact that only few people can handle such a huge geometry.
