Riyadh Zaha Hadid Architects 2017

KAPSARC Research Center

Overview

A 70,000 m² research campus on the Riyadh plateau, organised as five interconnected buildings under a continuous honeycomb shell. Zaha Hadid Architects’ first project to earn LEED Platinum, KAPSARC was tuned in response to the Saudi climate to minimise energy and resource use, and has since received five LEED EBOM Platinum certifications across its wings — among the highest sustainability ratings ever granted in the Gulf.

Scope

Smart algorithms processed CATIA façade panels, importing them automatically into Rhino and identifying every unique panel.

Outcome

The system flagged a wide range of geometric errors before fabrication, saving substantial production cost on a façade where each panel is unique.

Capabilities Applied

  • Automated CATIA-to-Rhino import
  • Algorithmic panel-uniqueness detection
  • Geometric error identification
  • Pre-fabrication quality assurance
